hey guys, I'm going to be fishing 90 mile beach near port Albert on the school holidays. i have a 7 kilo Alvey surf rod, its 13 foot. i have the Alvey surf champion on it and i am going to be putting 15 kilo platypus mono on it. will 60 pound wire line trace handle the gummy's? i will also fish for smaller species with a different Alvey reel and a shimano catana.
thanks, fisho999

The Alvey outfit you will be using is just fine, i use 65 Alvey with Garry Howard Fish Seeker MT9144 rod's, 15kg Platypus Lo Stretch - Pictured is a Gummy Shark, i caught land based last August. I used 20lbs line & 30lbs mono leader, with IQF Pilchards for bait. Gummy Sharks can be caught with same methods, rigs & fishing gear etc, as land based Snapper fishing - A nice land base Gummy Shark, these are good fighters & excellent eating - 60lbs wire is ok for sharks with teeth e.g School Sharks etc, mono leader is better for Gummy Sharks / Snapper.

hahaha, thanks mate. I'm hoping to get on a gummy this school holidays. I'm only at port Albert for 4 days sadly. I'm planning on bringing some sabiki rigs so i don't have to buy non fresh bait, i think that will up my chances

That tackle seems very ok for sharks. Try some sardines as bait, sharks love it.
