Dear Alvey Supporters, After announcing in 2019 that Alvey Reels was going into its centenary year of 2020 with a bright outlook and emerging global markets, Alvey Reels has seen significant export market growth, product innovation and expansion. The ability to source raw materials together with drastic cost increases, significant and increasing domestic and global supply chain logistics issues, and coupled with Covid 19 disruptive staff shortages, Alvey Reels has made the difficult decision that production at the Carole Park facility is no longer sustainable, and to cease manufacturing effective 30th June 2022. We are currently sitting on significant supplies across our whole range of Alvey products, and as such, there will be structured sell down of ALL our stock. We anticipate running with Warehouse/Dispatch and Administration staff with current stock on hand, which will carry us through to January/February 2023, but we will not be able to remain open after this time. Effective immediately to assist our administration team, the Alvey phones will be diverted to an answering service and all calls will be monitored and returned during each day. Any Alvey products including spare parts, can be ordered online at www.alvey.com.au and any queries can be emailed to info@alvey.com.au. All Alvey authorised retailers can while stocks last, order Alvey products, but Alvey spare parts can only be purchased from Alvey online or preferably from Tackle Land , Charltons Fishing or Gardiner Fisheries Rainbow Beach. We at Alvey Reels deeply regret this difficult decision, and whilst we commit to supplying as many of our products as we can for as long as we can, our immediate priorities are our loyal staff, our dedicated retailers and passionate supporters and customers. On behalf of the Alvey Team, we thank you all for your 102 years of support. Kind Regards, Con Athans and the Alvey Team

No doubt its a good investment. You will see, fast the Alvey tackle will be well chased by collectors and people who wants the last itens sold. Fast will desapear from tackle shops, and Ebay prices will get up (they already asking a fortune for trash ones...).

Yes agree, these two Alvey reels that i just purchased are not going to be for sale, just going to keep them & use both Alvey reels for beach fishing, as i always have had a soft spot for the Alvey's. Added video above of news clip of Alvey closing.

As I said, soon will be collection itens. Mainly the reels. Take care with the box/papers too, collectors fond them so much.

So Alvey is now, not closing 'Again' lucky i sold off all my newly purchased Alvey's before this announcement was made - An Australian favourite in fishing since 1920, Alvey Reels, has been acquired by Gowing Bros Ltd securing local ownership. Gowings has been in the business of Enriching People’s Lives since 1868 and is still operated by the family of the founder. “Gowings is extremely proud and honoured to be able to keep Alvey Reels in Australia” says Gowings Managing Director, John Gowing. Founded in Queensland during the 1920s when Charles Alvey saw the need for a fishing reel that was easy to use, easy to cast, simple to maintain, and solidly constructed. The original factory was a small shed without electricity where Charles Alvey painstakingly produced about twenty reels per week. His work was so meticulous that anglers called the Alvey “The reel you cannot wear out.” By the 1930s, 25,000 reels were being produced annually. The Queensland National Trust listed Alvey Reels as an icon of the state in 2004. Alvey reels are a quintessential Australian brand having a reputation for being durable with a long and proud history of high-quality Australian craftsmanship. The choice of competitive anglers for many reasons. John Gowing explains how the purchase of Alvey Reels fits within Gowings: “We saw an opportunity to keep an icon in Australian hands." Gowings also owns FCS, an iconic surfing brand, and we think Alvey would complement our interests in ocean sports. Philosophically we want to encourage sustainable enjoyment of our seas and oceans. Demonstrating this commitment is our 1% for the Oceans pledge, with proceeds going to the Gowings Whale Trust which aims to fund positive change in our oceans”. We are incredibly excited for this new chapter in the Alvey story and look forward to working with the Alvey Community to continue bringing a Better Way to Fish to Australia and the world.

Second time they do it. Lets see what next... Not a good look, in 2017 they said they are closing then announced they are saved & will remain open, in 2022 they said once again that they are closing again, then everyone begins to panic buy Alvey reels again, then Alvey announce once again they are saved for a 2nd time & are now not closing. Not to mention many people purchased more Alvey reels + spare parts that they will ever need & also many paid some very high inflated prices on eBay, now only to find the same Alvey reels will be back into production soon, its not a good look at all & understandably many people will be happy & also upset..

Most likely won't be buying Alvey again, twice they say they closing & then not 'seems like a sales pitch to sell more reels' at the expense of their loyal customers / supporters

Alvey Announcement for 2023 - With the New Year in full swing, it’s time for an Alvey update. Alvey’s ownership change is going very well. Most importantly, we’ve been busy rebuilding stock levels and would like to thank you all for your continued patience. There’s plenty of new developments in the pipeline, and we’ll share these with you through email and social media as they roll out. February will also see the relocation to our new factory, and we expect to have this fully operational in March. We’re incredibly excited for what 2023 holds for Alvey Reels. We couldn’t do it without the amazing Alvey Community and look forward to continuing the 103 year tradition of making our reels on home soil. Stay tuned for more updates! - 'Click Here'.
