I visited Melbourne over the past two day's, i went to a old fishing spot i fished often for big Snapper 'Lagoon Pier' Port Melbourne - Angler's fishing for Snapper, also it's a popular spot for tourists to view the Port of Melbourne - This hook shaped pier is popular with Snapper fishermen, who fish land-based - Many angler's make their own rod holder to suit the pier, as they fish the spot for Snapper often - During the peak of the Snapper season of 'October / November' the pier can be rather busy with any anglers, today it was not busy - The pier fishing here can be produce 'BIG' Snapper, but you better expect to go fishless many many times between fish - The angler's of the day, told me that they had lost a big Snapper earlier, but caught & released a little under sized Pinkie Snapper - Under sized Pinkie Snapper was caught & released, while i was there - This hook shaped pier is a shallow water pier, with a depth of approx 2 to 4m, so the fishing is best done in rough weather or night time fishing for Snapper - It was nice to visit this iconic Snapper fishing pier, it is near the heart of the Melbourne CBD.

In this kind of fishery, is common the fishes are just aside the pillars. I saw a lot of people just droping the lines very aside the pillars, almost down the boardwalk and having good success.

Indeed, the pier acts as an artificial reef. But for the big Snapper most angler's cast as far as possible into deeper water, this produces the best result on this pier.
